I need to run my tanning bed in my extra bedroom, but my house is too old to power it. Is there a generator that can handle a tannig bed? It needs 220 volts.

I am planning to buy a portable generator for which I have to calculate power requirement. We have 12 desktops with following configuration
1. 17" LCD monitors with 35W power rating.
2. one Intel P4 3.0 GHZ processor (single core)
3. one 1GB DDR2 RAM
4. one 320 GB SATA HDD
5. one 400 W SMPS power supply unit (PSU)
6. 750 VA ups connected individually to each PC
we use these desktop for internet browsing and word processing. so they don’t have graphics cards. We don’t need to use printer, scanner etc.

I have estimated to consume maximum of 200W per PC so with safety factor I am planning to buy 3KW generator (3.3KW maximum output). Its KW not KVA (power factor 1) . We don’t have to power other electronics devices behind 2 DSL and ADSL routers and one switch with generator.

Will it be sufficient? What do you suggest ?
What other factor do I have to consider while buying a Generator except brand name?

I would like to get a generator and am also considering investing in some wind-power (urban windmill). I know that the windmill would require an inverter and that most portable generators have inverters in them. Is there any generator that would accept DC input and transform it into AC?

My fiance and i are moving to Guam in 2 months and we have to have a generator for our home because of hurricanes. We don’t have a lot of money, but we still need a strong one for when the power goes out.

I rent a small house and dont have a lot of money. However, Hurricane season is here and I am seriously thinking about getting a generator. My house is tiny and really dont think I need something to power the whole house. Although it would be nice. I really need it to power a fan or two and maybe my television and a light. My nieghborhood is not the best and so I cant leave a massive generator outside, I am sure it would get ripped off. Does anybody know of something not to big that I can store easily and bring in it at night once I am done using it.

i know power tools draw a lot more than there rating when starting up! but im not sure what the exact start up current is on a 1700watt jackhammer!
i want to run it on a portable inverter generator! but before buying one, i need to know what size inverter generator i,d need to buy!
please answer this only if you have an electrical background and sound knowledge!
i dont need answers like try asking an electrician!

My understanding is that my TV is rated somewhere between 3 and 4 amps. My 1000 Watt generator produces a little over 8 amps. Yet my TV (2 different ones) have smoked when hooked up. Here’s the sequence of events:
1) Start generator, let warm up for 5 minutes
2) Plug TV into AC outlet of generator (no other items plugged in, only TV).
3) Turn TV on. Picture apprears for couple mins, then the screen goes dark and smoke comes out the back of the TV.
4) Turn generator off.
5) Then, to see if TV is still working, plug TV into regular household outlet and it works – no smoke.

What’s happening? Theoretically the generator should have enough power to make the TV operate. Help! Can’t have another weekend with no TV in the fish house.

The spark plug has no numbers because I spilled gas on it and the ink dissolved. I think it said FCT6 or some combination of that. I just know there was an F, a T, a C, and a 6.

I want to have a hand full of AC Delco’s in my toolbox just in case it ever decides not to start or I break one etc… etc…

Can someone tell me what I need to do? It’s an automotive type plug, it has a long threaded portion and a long insulator. So far no problems, but I don’t want to be out in the cold should something happen.

Is there such a thing as a 110 volt portable power supply? Something I could plug into the wall to charge, and then take with me and plug in appliances? Preferably not a generator, as those take gas.

by manual pedal power instead of a gasoline or propane engine? How hard would it be to turn say a 3000 or even a 8000 watt generator connected to a bicycle crank to provide power for portable electric heaters.
ok, now why is that? if I get one of those 8000 watt generators from say Home Depot and remove the engine and frame etc leaving the actual generator and connect a bicycle to it with reduction gears, chain etc, would it require more torque then I could produce?

Portable Home Generator Problem : Peak Power 2800 W, Rated Power 2500 W. Generator is not bearing the load as it was bearing previously. I have it for about 5.5months now. But now its not bearing the load of 1 H. P motor as i start the motor it shuts off completely and i have to restart it again by keeping the motor off.

Whats the problem ? How to resolve ? Any problem regarding Air Filter, Spark Plug etc. Because i didnt clean the air filter for about a month or little so and the generator is on the open roof of the house and it runs for about 3 hours or 3.5 hours a day.

With the power crisis looming in, I think it’s better to have a solar panel than buy a portable generator which eats up petrol. Philippines must have the costliest fuel per liter in Asia. Problem is, solar panels can’t be bought as easily as generators.

I need a portable way to plug in a full upright vacuum and be able to provide enough power for roughly an hour of use. I have considered a gas powered electric generator, however I was curious if anyone else knew of any other possibilities? Maybe an array of car batteries? It is not possible for me to plug the vacuum in to an electrical outlet connected to a building. I need a portable method.

Also, which is quieter? which has the least amount of problems?

i have to rent a generator how powerful does it have to be to power lets say 2 saws and about 8 flood lights that are 500W. or 16- at 150W. how many watts should the generator be? can it be like a little portable one thats like 3ft or will it have to be one of those huge ones that you have to tow with a truck?

I have a Milwaukee M12 battery charger and a small portable generator, the generator can much more than handle the capacity of the charger, but being a small generator, the power can fluctuate about 10-20 volts, sometimes much more when there is a heavy load connected or disconnected.

My question is can I use the M12 charger with this generator without damaging it or do I have to get a car charger? Most of the time I will have access to mains power, but occasionally I will only have the generator or my car’s battery.
